Reay H. Brown, M.D
Reay H. Brown, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation. He has been in practice in Atlanta since 1988.
Dr. Brown earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College Cum laude and completed medical school at the University of Michigan. He trained in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He then completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and returned to Johns Hopkins as Chief Resident.
Dr. Brown was selected as the first Pamela Firman Professor of Ophthalmology at the Emory Eye Center. Mrs. Firman made the donation for the professorship in gratitude for Dr. Brown?s care of her eyes. He served as the Director of the Glaucoma Service at Emory for eleven years prior to entering private practice with Atlanta Ophthalmology Associates in 1999.
Dr. Brown has published more than 90 peer reviewed articles on glaucoma and cataract surgery. He has served as chairman of the ASCRS Glaucoma Committee and is currently the Glaucoma Editor of EyeWorld magazine. He recently received the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Brown is one of only a few ophthalmologists in Georgia to receive this prestigious award. He received the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award from John Hopkins University (Wilmer Eye Institute) and the 2014 Innovator Award form the American Glaucoma Society. He has given many named lectures all over the world including the Obstbaum Lecture at the 2011 ASCRS Glaucoma Day. He was selected to give the Charles D. Kelman Innovator Lecture in 2017. This international award honors Dr. Kelman, the inventor of phacoemulsification, a huge step forward in successful cataract surgery outcomes. This award has only been given to 33 innovators in eye surgery since its inception in 1985.
Dr. Brown and his wife, Dr. Mary G. Lynch ? a Professor at Emory ? have been awarded 25 patents for new devices and instruments to improve glaucoma and cataract surgery. Their patents on trabecular bypass are the fundamental patents for several innovative devices implanted into the outflow channel of the eye. Dr. Brown has been selected by his peers to be listed each year in Best Doctors in America and by a separate peer survey in Atlanta Magazine as one of the best ophthalmologist in Atlanta.
Drs. Brown and Lynch have two daughters, Veronica and Annie. Rounding out their household is, Lily, a loving English Mastiff. Dr. Brown is an avid runner, enjoys playing tennis and traveling with his family.
David A. Palay, M.D
David A. Palay, M.D. is a Board Certified ophthalmologist specializing in refractive surgery, corneal transplant surgery and cataract surgery. He has been in practice in Atlanta since 1992.
He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University: he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then attended medical school and completed his residency at Emory University. He did a fellowship in corneal surgery at the University of Iowa, and he was a full-time faculty member at The Emory Eye Center of Emory University from 1992 to 1999. In 1999, Dr. Palay entered private practice with Atlanta Ophthalmology Associates, PC, specializing in LASIK refractive surgery, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery. He remains actively involved in teaching surgical techniques at Emory University as an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.
His extensive work and experience in the field of corneal disease has made him a nationally recognized corneal specialist. He has written two major textbooks of ophthalmology, Cornea Color Atlas and Ophthalmology For the Primary Care Physician. Corneal Color Atlas is regarded as the gold standard for corneal disease. He also contributed to the textbook of corneal diseases, Cornea and he frequently reviews research papers for the journal Cornea and The American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has published numerous articles and presented his research work at several national ophthalmology meetings. For his dedication to the field, he has been featured as one of the best ophthalmologists in Atlanta Magazine and in Best Doctors In America several times, most recently in 2016. Currently, he is one of the Medical Directors for the Georgia Eye Bank.

Ken D. Kindy, M.D
Ken D. Kindy, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist and has been in private practice here in Atlanta over 35 years. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kindy spent three years at Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, where he earned his undergraduate degree graduating cum laude. He was also class president his last year. He then went on to receive his medical degree at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. After a year of internship at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he served two years as Captain in the United States Army. His first year was spent in Cu Chi, Vietnam, where he was battalion surgeon for an infantry unit during which time he earned the bronze star. His last year was spent as chief physician at Sharpe Army Depot in Manteca, California.
Following his service in the army he returned to Indiana University Medical Center where he completed his three year ophthalmology residency and then moved to Atlanta. During that time, he was asked to proctor and lecture to the ophthalmology residents at Grady Hospital. He has been on the active staff at numerous hospitals in the Atlanta area and has served as chief of surgery at Shallowford Hospital.
Dr. Kindy has been married to his lovely wife Sharon for 35 years, and they have two children, Karisa and Chad, with whom they spend many hours of enjoyment. In his free time, Dr. Kindy enjoys boating, playing golf, and dabbling in photography.
Elma . Chang, M.D
Elma Chang is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma treatment, complex glaucoma surgery and cataract surgery.
Dr. Chang is a graduate of Emory University who gained recognition on the Dean's Honor List with Phi Beta Kappa honors. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Washington University in St. Louis. While there, she was awarded the prestigious Research to Prevent Blindness Medical Student Fellowship and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Research Fellowship for Medical Students.
She completed her residency at Doheny Eye Institute associated with the University of Southern California. She then decided to pursue a sub-specialty in glaucoma and Dr. Chang went on to complete a fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, ranked the #1 eye hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report and is the # 1ophthalmology program nationally.
Dr. Chang has written peer-reviewed articles published in leading ophthalmology journals and performed research at The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology conference. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Glaucoma Society. She was presented the Reay of Hope award, a peer voted honor, at the 2017 ASCRS. She has hospital staff privileges at Northside Hospital and is licensed to practice in Georgia, Florida and California.
Outside of work, Dr. Chang's interests include cooking, travel, and community service. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Stephen, friends and family. She is fluent in English, Korean and conversational in Spanish.
James H. Dew Jr., M.D.
James H. Dew, Jr. M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who has been in private practice in the Atlanta area for over 30 years. Dr. Dew specializes in comprehensive eye care and treatment as well as glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Dew is an Atlanta native, graduating from Westminster High School, with undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University. His medical education continued at Emory University Medical School, graduating Cum Laude. He completed his internship at Medical College of Virginia and ophthalmology residency at Emory University. Dr. Dew also served in active military service in the Air Force, serving in Japan.
Dr. Dew remains active within the ophthalmology community, with both contributions and attendance. He is a member of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and various medical societies. Dr. Dew has been a clinical instructor within the Emory department of Ophthalmology and remains on staff at several medical centers. Dr. Dew is a proud to be a second generation Atlanta physician. During his off hours, Dr. Dew enjoys fly fishing and collecting oriental antiques. He and his wife, Carol, have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. They enjoy time with family and travel often.
Kelly R. Barrows, O.D.
Kelly R. Barrows is a board certified Optometrist. She has practiced in the Atlanta area since 1990 and specializes in primary eye care and contact lenses.
Dr. Barrows attended Ohio State University and graduated from North Carolina State University. She graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and was president of the Political Action Committee while attending.
Kelly had two internships, one at Fort Bragg Eye Clinic in Fayetteville, N.C. and a second at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta. She spent her first thirteen practice years at Hunter Eyecare Group in Atlanta; then two years in an ophthalmology practice fitting contact lenses as a specialty. In 2005, Dr. Barrows started her own mobile eye care business to provide care for seniors in assisted living facilities.
Dr. Barrows? husband of 25 years is also an optometrist. Both Drs. Barrows have travelled to Costa Rica to provide free eye care and fit glasses for underprivileged families. They have two children, Christina and Drew. In her free time, Dr. Barrows enjoys spending time with her family, bicycling and traveling together.
Heather M. Weissman, M.D
Dr. Heather Weissman is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery as well as cornea, refractive and anterior segment surgery.
She completed her undergraduate training at the University of Georgia in biology where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. During her undergraduate studies, she went on outreach missions to Nicaragua and Costa Rica providing medical care to the underserved. She subsequently pursued a medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Weissman completed her internship and residency training in ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. During residency, she participated in research in the field of cornea and refractive surgery which led her to pursue a prestigious fellowship in Cornea, Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Weissman has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and presented her research at local and national scientific meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Cornea Society. She has hospital staff privileges at Northside Hospital and is licensed to practice medicine in Georgia and Texas.
Dr. Weissman is a native Atlantan and excited to be back in Georgia! Apart from ophthalmology, she enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with her husband, Jason, and dog, Murphy.
